Identity Released of Woman Struck, Killed by Drunk Driver

Authorities have released the identity of the 30-year-old woman who was hit by a drunk driver and who later died from her injuries yesterday.

Cynthia Anne Ray was struck by a pickup truck operated by 50-year-old Robert Bryant outside of the State Police barracks in Andover.  She had just left the building and was walking towards her car when she was struck by Bryant. Ray and Bryant are both from the Bradford section of Haverhill. Our sympathies go to the family of Cynthia Ray for their loss.

Bryant was in Lawrence District Court today, facing charges that included motor vehicle homicide and operating under the influence.  Not guilty pleas were entered in response to the charges, with Bryant stating that he did not remember hitting the woman with his truck.

Fatal Drunk Driving Accident Statistics
Last year, there were over 4,000 pedestrians hit and killed by cars in the United States. In 2008, impaired or drunk drivers were responsible for the deaths of 12,000 people nationwide. This statistic translates to one individual being killed every 45 minutes by an impaired or drunk driver on the road.
