Franklin Police Officer Struck by Car on 495

After months of hearing about vehicle accidents in which Massachusetts police officers got injured or killed by motor vehicles while they were working details on Massachusetts roads, here comes the newest story in which a Franklin cop got struck and injured by a passing vehicle in a hit-and-run accident.

In this case, police officer Edward Clifford was struck by a car Wednesday afternoon while working a construction detail on an off ramp on 495. The driver hit him and fled the scene, news reports said.

The driver Ari Cunard, 25 was arrested. Cunard reportedly continued driving after hitting Clifford, even after construction workers banged on her car windows.

Cunard was charged with driving to endanger and leaving the scene of an accident, but she pleaded not guilty. We'll write on the further developments on this story.

In the meantime, a piece of good news - Officer Clifford has been released from the hospital and is on the mend.
