When emergency personnel responded to the crash, they found the Honda Civic owned by Beeley crushed against a telephone pole. Ata was rescued from the wrecked car with relative ease, but it took crews and the Jaws of Life two hours to remove Beeley from the vehicle.
Ata was transported to Lawrence General Hospital before being taken by helicopter to a Boston hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Beeley was initially transported to Lawrence General, but was later driven in an ambulance to another Boston hospital due to weather conditions barring a helicopter flight.
Beeley remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Boston hospital.
The telephone pole was damaged but the accident did not result in any power outages to the area. Crews are working to replace the pole and repairing any wire damage.
Police are looking into the cause of the accident and at this point it is unknown whether or not the icy roads played a part in this serious accident.
