Teenager Killed in Seekonk Hit and Run Accident

Jacob Mayo, 18, of Seekonk, was killed when he was hit by an oncoming car while walking in the breakdown lane on I-95 late last Friday night.  Police involved with the case have not made an arrest yet in the fatal accident case, but it has been reported that that they have recovered the car that officials believe struck and killed the teen.

Authorities are not releasing information on where the vehicle that hit Mayo was found or how they found it.  Additionally, police have not released the name of who the vehicle belongs to or who may be responsible for the fatal accident.  It is also unknown at this point why Mayo was walking in the breakdown lane of the highway that tragic night.

The deadly accident remains under investigation as state and local police continue to search for more answers.

More than 10% of all car accidents nationwide involve hit and runs, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Two of the more common reasons why drivers leave the scene of an accident after they hit either a car or a pedestrian are because the driver may not have car insurance and, secondly, that the driver was operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs and attempts to avoid getting caught.

In the U.S. last year, just under 4,100 pedestrians were killed as a result of being struck by a car on the nation’s roadways.  In Massachusetts of the same year, there were 48 pedestrians killed after being hit by a motor vehicle.

Our sympathies go to the family of Jacob Mayo for their tragic loss.
