Woman Dies in Accident on Route 95

Ashley Valente, of Wilmington, died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Route 95 in Walpole early this past Saturday.

It was reported that 20-year-old Valente and her passenger, 20-year-old Kayla Tolentino of Boston, were traveling north on 95 when their Toyota Camry hit the back of a Chrysler Pacifica in front of them.  After the impact, Valente lost control of the car and it veered off of the highway, rolling over and colliding with a tree.  Valente was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the car.  She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Tolentino was injured and taken by ambulance to a local hospital for medical treatment.  The vehicle that had been struck by Valente’s car was being operated by 57-year-old Russell Agrusa of Westwood.  Agrusa had one passenger, 53-year-old Paula Agrusa, and both were uninjured in the accident.

Massachusetts State Police and reconstruction teams are currently investigating the cause of the tragic crash.

According to 2008 data from the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), most car crashes involving fatalities happened between approximately 12:00am and 3:00am on Saturdays and Sundays across the nation.  In Massachusetts last year, just over 60 percent of drivers and occupants ages 16 to 20 were not wearing seatbelts in fatal crashes, which resulted in a total of 18 deaths for this age bracket.
