Hit-and-Run Allston Accident Seriously Injures 6-Year-Old Girl

Police have not identified the young girl, 6, who was hit by a silver Jeep Cherokee Saturday night just before 8:30pm, while she and her parents were crossing an Allston street where Cambridge Street and Harvard Avenue intersect.

The little girl was rushed to a local hospital for a broken neck and bleeding in her brain from the accident.  Sunday afternoon, she was upgraded from critical condition to serious condition and is expected to recover from her injuries.

The Jeep left the scene of the accident as soon as the girl was hit and police are still looking for the vehicle and the driver who is responsible for the hit-and-run.  According to police, the Jeep would have front-end damage as well as damage to the headlights.

Police are urging anyone who saw the hit-and-run accident who might have helpful information to call them at 617-343-4256.  If you would like to remain anonymous when calling the police with a tip, you can call 800-494-TIPS or you can text “TIP” to CRIME (27463).

U.S. Accidents Involving Pedestrians
In 2009, 4,092 pedestrians were killed by passenger cars and other motor vehicles on U.S. roads.  There were 842 pedestrians who died while improperly crossing a street or other intersection.  Of the total number of pedestrian deaths that year, just over 1,400 did not have any contributing factors named in the accidents.

Our thoughts are with the family of this young girl and we hope for a speedy recovery from her injuries.
