Planning Your Ride Home After the Super Bowl

Super Bowl Sunday is a little more than a week away and you’re probably setting up plans on where you’ll be watching the game, if you haven’t already.  What might not be at the top of your pre-game prep list is what you’ll be doing for a ride home once the post-game party draws to a close.

There were 333 deadly accidents in Massachusetts in 2009 and of those involved in the crashes, 26% of drivers registered a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 and higher.  There were 30% of drivers who had a BAC of .01 or more of those total accidents.  If you’re planning on drinking for the February 6 game, put plans in place now to either use public transportation, if at all possible, or ask a designated driver to give you a ride back home.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) started a helpful campaign known as the Give the Gift of a Designated Driver, and it’s set up for those who want to be the designated driver after a given party, so that their friends have the option of getting a safe ride back home once it’s time to leave.

According to statistics from MADD, 32% of all fatal crashes in Massachusetts in 2010 involved a driver who was drunk behind the wheel.  That same year, 108 people in the state were killed as a direct result of someone driving drunk.

Please include a safe ride home as part of your Super Bowl Party planning.
