Tristan Palmer, 25, of Lawrence was killed in a deadly accident this past Saturday morning in Methuen on Route 213. The Eagle Tribune reports that at about 12:30am, Palmer lost control of his Saturn Ion as he was heading onto the I-495 ramp from Route 213 and collided with a guardrail, sending his car down an embankment and landing with the nose of the vehicle propped on the ground and the Saturn’s roof against a tree.
First responders to the deadly accident transported Palmer to a local hospital before taking him by helicopter to a Boston hospital. Palmer was pronounced dead Saturday evening around 7:30pm at the hospital. Authorities have reported that speed contributed to the fatal crash, which remains under investigation by officials.
Deadly Crashes in Massachusetts
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration operates the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), which records deadly crashes that have been reported on an annual basis around the country. FARS reports indicate that 251 deadly crashes in 2009 in Massachusetts involving single and multiple cars occurred while the vehicles were going straight on a roadway or highway. Also that year, 31 fatal accidents were reported while a vehicle was either merging on a highway or changing lanes.
