Salem Man Killed in Boston Sumner Tunnel Accident

Brian Hicks, 39, of Salem was killed in a single vehicle accident Sunday evening around 10:00pm in Boston’s Sumner Tunnel. According to The Boston Herald, the pickup truck that Hicks was driving somehow crashed on the Storrow Drive ramp in the tunnel. Authorities shut down the exit while the scene was cleared and the exact cause of the crash continues to be investigated by Massachusetts State Police. There were two deadly crashes on the Storrow Drive ramp in 2008 and 2009, claiming the lives of a man and a woman in the accidents and leaving several others seriously injured.

Fatal Accident Statistics
Light trucks were involved in nearly 40% of all fatal crashes in the U.S. in 2009, as reported by the Fatality Analysis Reporting System of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The total number of accidents involving light trucks (including pickup trucks) that year was just over 17,900.
