Local Accidents in the News This Week

6-Year-Old Girl Dies in Mass Pike Minivan Crash An unidentified 6-year-old girl was killed in a deadly accident on the Mass Pike last Thursday in Auburn.

The Boston Globe reported that the unnamed young girl and two unidentified 4-year-old girls were occupants in a Chrysler Town and Country minivan that was being operated by Lodia Rodriguez, 25, of Worcester. The relationship between the 3 girls and Rodriguez was not established.

Rodriguez reportedly made contact with a box truck that was in another lane of the busy highway and then lost control of the minivan, veering into the guardrail and crashing. During the crash, the unnamed 6-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle.

The 4-year-old girls and Rodriguez were rushed to a Worcester area hospital with reportedly minor injuries. John Gurr, 32, of New Britain, CT was the operator of the box truck and did not suffer any injuries in the accident. Massachusetts State Police are continuing to investigate this tragedy.

Woman Dies in Drunken Driving Crash in Stoughton
Maureen O’Brien Ellis, 57, of Easton died Saturday evening in a drunken driving crash, which left two others seriously injured.

The fatal accident occurred on Route 24 around 11:00pm in Stoughton when Patricia Neville-Colp, 48, of Bridgewater veered her Jeep Grand Cherokee across two lanes of the highway and crashed into the Kia Sportage that O’Brien Ellis was an occupant in.

The Kia, operated by Steven Cadoff, 64, of Sharon then rolled over and O’Brien Ellis was ejected out of the vehicle. The Boston Globe reported that O’Brien Ellis was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. Martha Cadoff, 63, of Sharon, was also an occupant of the Kia and was seriously injured in the accident as well.

The Cadoffs were transported to a Boston area hospital for emergency medical treatment. Officials have reported that the Cadoffs had their seatbelts on in the Kia and have stated that it appears O’Brien Ellis did not have her seatbelt on.

Neville-Colp, who was not injured in the crash, is facing several charges in connection with the fatal crash, including driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, attempting to leave the scene of an accident, and motor vehicle homicide. Authorities had to close down Route 24 South for about 4 hours after the crash to investigate and reconstruct the scene.
