2 People Die in Route 20 Crash

A tragic head-on collision in Auburn on Saturday resulted in the death of two people.

The fatal 2-car accident happened on Route 20 between South Street and Elm Street near a realty office at 492 Washington Street (another name for Route 20).


According to police, the crash occurred when a Toyota Camry going east on Route 20 collided head-on with an oncoming Mazda.

Both drivers were injured, but the Mazda passengers suffered the most. The Toyota driver received very minor injuries, while the Mazda driver suffered had injuries that were visible but not life threatening, police said.

The two accident fatalities were passengers in the Mazda - both adult males. Their names were not immediately released. Police said none of the victims were from Auburn.

One of the victims was in the backseat and received emergency medical care en route to UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University campus, but to no avail.

The second victims died in the crash. He was in the front seat of the Mazda. 

The accident remains under investigation.
