Transit Officer Injured in Swampscott Crash

A Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) police officer suffered injuries in an accident in Swampscott, Mass. on Tuesday.

According to news reports, the 34-year-old MBTA police officer lost control of his cruiser and struck four parked vehicles.

One witness said that he saw the cruiser, "It appeared as if there wasn't anybody driving. In other words, there wasn't anybody sitting upright in the seat."

The officer, who is a married father, suffered head injury when his head smashed the cruiser's windshield. He was conscious and talking when medics arrived at the scene. He was rushed to Salem Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
