Car Falls off 95 in Newburyport, Unidentified Body Found in Merrimack River

A body was found in the Merrimack River after 12:00am today in Newburyport after reports were made of a car plunging into the water off of the highway at about 8:00pm last evening.

It was reported that the Toyota sedan drove over the barriers covered in snow on the Whittier Bridge and then plummeted into the cold water.

Emergency workers and the Coast Guard collaborated in the thorough search of the Merrimack for the car and the individual involved.

There was an unidentified individual inside the Toyota when it was found in the icy water.

All but one of the lanes on 95 north were closed for many hours while rescue efforts were underway.
