Snow and Speed May Have Contributed to Deadly I-95 Bridge Crash

Charles Moncousky, 64, of North Hampton, NH, was killed late Monday evening when the Toyota Camry he was driving plunged off of the Whittier Bridge on I-95 between Newburyport and Amesbury around 10:00pm into the frigid water of the Merrimack River. Officials located the vehicle, with Moncousky inside, about 20 feet below the Merrimack’s surface a little over two hours after the initial reports came in about a vehicle plummeting off the bridge.

Authorities are currently investigating whether or not the snow-covered barriers on the Whittier and speed could have played a role in Moncousky’s car falling into the freezing water below the bridge. Several State Police units are looking into how the tragic crash occurred.
