Massachusetts Auto Accident News – 02-02-2011

While yet another snow storm blankets ours state, here are the latest news regarding motor vehicle accidents in Massachusetts.
  • A 12-year-old boy was injured on Monday after being struck by a car in Newton, Massachusetts. The boy was walking to school with his brother when he ran across the street. He got struck by an oncoming vehicle as he attempted to cross the road; not in a crosswalk. Police have ruled out limited visibility due to snow or snow banks, but believe solar glare may have been a factor.
  • John A. “Jack” Barisano, 62, of Marshfield was killed in a single vehicle accident on Route 3 in Pembroke on Monday morning. According to officials, Barisano was driving a Needham municipal pickup truck northbound on Route 3 when he lost control north of Exit 12 and south of the North River Bridge. The Ford pickup truck struck the left-side guardrail, flipped over and rolled over into the median strip. Barisano was ejected in the crash. He was transported to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Barisano was a veteran employee as a Highway Forman for the Town of Needham.
  • Charles Moncousky, 64, of North Hampton, NH died after the car he was driving plunged about 100 feet off a bridge on Interstate 95 and 20 feet into the freezing waters of Merrimack River. His body was recovered from the submerged 2002 Toyota Camry on Monday by state police, the Coast Guard and local authorities. Police had previously received reports of a car plowing through a snowbank and driving off the Whittier Bridge on the Amesbury-Newburyport line at about 8:15 pm. The vehicle, which was owned by Total Air Supply, Inc., an HVAC company in Nashua, NH was recovered Tuesday morning. It appears that the driver may have been speeding.
These tragic accidents further underline the absolute necessity of paying attention on the road while driving, or crossing the street. We sympathize with the families of the killed drivers, and hope that the 12-year-old boy will fully recover from his injuries.

As the winter weather continues in Massachusetts, the chances for motor vehicle accidents are greater and we should all strive to be more attentive drivers.
